My primary user persona for this project was a young college student who is passionate about art, design, and creativity. Her spirit is fun and I wanted to encapsulate that in my work with bright colors, trendy but vintage style illustrations, and clean designs. My persona has a very fast-paced life, and I wanted to ensure that the text was short and informative, the animations between sections were quick and snappy, and that users had the option to go at whatever pace they wanted, either by scrolling or by quickly snapping from section to section.
One thing that surprised me about this process was how different the layout and thinking are for mobile versus desktop design. I had a really clear vision and cool idea for the desktop layout, but when it came time to translate that into a mobile design, I felt like I couldn't quite capture the same style that I was aiming for with the desktop.
The most important thing I learned in a technical sense throughout this process was how to use auto layout. Once I started to understand the difference between hug and fill, padding, margins, and gaps, and all of the other little settings that can be adjusted, I was able to work much faster at cleaning up my project and getting it organized. In a more general sense, the research process was very new to me and I found it really helpful to brainstorm ideas using the sticky notes and stickers. It helped me get a sense of the root goals of the project, and though I didn't end up using many of the solutions I came up with, I still think I was able to create a solution that met the needs of the users I outlined.
